Spring is finally coming to Texas.
It’s March now, and many of us are excited about the prospect of better weather, longer days and starting to enjoy more time outdoors grilling, gardening or just taking a walk in the fresh air.
Maybe you’re planning some home improvement projects, too. If that’s the case, it’s definitely worth considering adding some DIY projects that will protect your home from one of spring’s biggest weather threats—severe thunderstorms.
There’s nothing you can do to stop storms from hitting your community. But you can take steps to protect your home from these dangers. Here’s what you should consider.
Get Your Home Ready for Spring Storms
Here are some things to add to your seasonal to-do list:
Clean your home’s gutters. We talk about this step frequently in our home maintenance guidance, and there’s a good reason for that. Clean, clear gutters are an excellent way to keep water around your home flowing the right way, instead of causing water damage.
Examine your roof. You don’t want to discover there’s a problem with your roof after a heavy rainstorm. Instead, you’ll want to be sure your roof is in good shape if a storm starts hitting. Check for things like missing shingles and signs of leaks. Repair them.
Check your home’s sump pump for issues. You don’t want to find out there’s a problem with your sump pump when it rains. Instead, check it now for issues.
Examine your home’s exterior. Don’t let problems with overhanging tree limbs or loose items like patio furniture become a problem during storms. Instead, cut any tree limbs that hang over your roof or garage and secure things you can.
If a fire, flood or any other cause damage to your home, you can always count on us for restoration assistance. We are available 24⁄7 in the event of an emergency. Contact us at any time to learn more about our restoration services and how we can help you.
