What To Do Until SERVPRO of Alamo Heights Arrives: Fire Damage
3/20/2017 (Permalink)
When a fire suddenly occurs, it can be overwhelming and SERVPRO of Alamo Heights understands that feeling. If a fire does occur at your home or office here are some tips of what to do and what not to do until we arrive.
DO:
- Limit movement in the home or office to prevent soot particles from being embedded into upholstery & carpet.
- Keep hands clean. Soot on hands can further soil what they touch.
- Place dry, colorfast towels or old linens on rugs, upholstery, & carpet traffic areas.
- If your electricity is off, empty the freezer & refrigerator completely. Then prop doors open to help prevent odor.
- Wipe soot from chrome on kitchen & bathroom faucets, trim & appliances, then protect these surfaces with a light coating of lubricant.
- Wash both sides of leaves on house plants.
- Change HVAC filter, but leave system off until a trained professional can check the system.
DON'T:
- Attempt to wash any walls or painted surfaces without first contacting your SERVPRO of Alamo Heights Franchise Professional.
- Attempt to shampoo carpet or upholstered furniture without first consulting SERVPRO of Alamo Heights
- Attempt to clean any electrical appliances
- Consume any food or beverages that may have been stored close to fire, heat or water.
- Turn on ceiling fixtures if ceiling is wet. The wiring may be wet or damaged and cause electrical shock, and air movement may create secondary damage.
